Location
The wilderness hideaway of Amanwana (peaceful forest) is located on Moyo Island, a nature reserve 15 kilometeres off the coast of Sumbawa, east of Bali. Vegetation on the 36,000-hectare islands ranges from Savanna to tropical jungle. Moyo is blessed with a variety of animal and bird life, from deer and banteng bull to wild boar, macaque monkeys, sea eagles and osprey.
The Concept
Amanwana, which means “peaceful forest”, is a nature camp and wilderness hideaway. Set in a secluded cove on the island’s west coast, the camp is surrounded by tropical forest and looks out over Amanwana Bay and beyond to the Flores Sea. Medang Island, in the northwest, the rugged mountains of Sumbawa in the south and Lombok’s volcanic Mt Rinjani are all visible from Moyo. The island is the “cork” in a natural bottleneck leading to Saleh Bay, a sheltered inland sea that is ideal for cruising and island hopping.
Jungle Cove Beauty Treatments
Amanwana has developed the jungle cove massage area, ten meters from the water edge. Under the tamarind trees in the jungle, guests relax and enjoy a traditional massage. Offered is a selection of body treatments. Choose from javanese lulur, or black borneo body scrub, a traditional Indonesian milk bath or aloe vera and lavender sun treatment.
Jungle Cove Massage
The Jungle Cove Massage area is just off the beach and under shady tamarind trees. Simple coral-stone walls divide the outdoor centre into three treatment areas, each including a recessed, soaking tub and a shower. Enjoy a massage, a fresh-fruit facial or a Borneo body scrub while watching the clouds gather about distant Mount Rinjani.
Accommodation
Amanwana's 20 luxury air-conditioned tents feature a solid-wall foundation followed by a waterproof exterior roof and an interior one of canvas. A coral stone deck surrounds each tent and inside each features banks of windows, Indonesian island artwork, hardwood flooring, a sitting area with facing divans, a king-size bed, a writing desk and a large bathroom.
Sand paths link the tents to one another and lead to the beach, the dining room and reception.
