Location
Regina Isabella is located on its own private beach next to the pretty village of Lacco Ameno, in a tranquil cove framed by rocky cliffs and Mediterranean pine groves. Known as ‘The Green Island’, Ischia is famed for its natural beauty and was chosen as one of the locations for the filming of The Talented Mr Ripley.

History
The Greeks first colonised Ischia in 770 BC, building their ancient community exactly where Regina Isabella is currently situated. Greek legend states that Zeus banished a giant to an eternal prison beneath the rock of Ischia. His daughter, Venus, so loved the giant that the tears she shed at his loss created the famous green rock that surrounds the island, while the healing thermal spas were created from the tears of the giant.

In the early 1950’s, the publisher Angelo Rizzoli established the hotel as a favourite with the international jet set. Guests at the time included Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Helena Rubinstein, Maria Callas, Charlie Chaplin and Clark Gable.

The Spa
The ancient Romans discovered remarkable volcanic hot springs and their therapeutic properties on the island of Ischia as early as the 3rd Century BC. Today, the thermal spa at Regina Isabella is the only spa in the world where guests can gain the benefits of thermal waters beside the sea.

Under the direction of Medical Director, Dr. Paolo Magrassi, all guests of the spa under go a thorough medical examination before being prescribed an individual treatment programme. These may include regular volcanic mud wraps, thermal waters, osteopathy, craniosacral therapy, physiotherapy and mind balance therapy. There is also a large range of non-invasive plastic dermatology, including non-surgical face-lifts and other anti ageing regenerative treatments, all utilising natural products.

The spa has 60 treatment rooms, as well as several Hydro massage baths and the latest technology for lymphatic draining; including a Knipp machine and pressetherapy. Many of the massage oils are blended on site, using locally produced oil and fruit.

Accommodation
Each room at Regina Isabella is different, with hand painted Majolica tiles that vary in colour and design. The hotel also offers a seven one–bedroom suites on the Royal floor. Each room has private plunge pools, as well as being the first hotel that provides three types of thermal waters straight to your room. Other categories of rooms include:

Superior Rooms
All the rooms are large double rooms with views that either overlook the private beach or the hotel garden. Many of the garden rooms offer large balconies and sitting rooms.

Suites
Each suite has large bedrooms, two or three bathrooms, a sitting room and a private terrace overlooking the sea.

Dining-The Restaurants
The hotel offers two restaurants, both overlooking the hotel’s private beach, with uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean Sea. Head Chef, Luigi Castanga, uses local, seasonal produce to create a daily menu for both

restaurants. The menus make healthy eating enjoyable, with a selection of delicious grilled fish, simply prepared pasta, meat, salads, vegetables and anti-pasta.
